MUSCAT: The preference modification period for admission to the higher education institutions for the 2026/2027 academic year, begins on Tuesday and continues until Saturday, August 1, the Higher Education Admission Center (HEAC), has announced.
Ahmed bin Mohammed al Azri, Director-General of the (HEAC), said that the total number of available seats has reached 34,239 compared to 29,259 in the previous academic year, representing a 17 per cent increase. He added that the available seats are distributed among government higher education institutions, internal scholarships and grants at non-governmental higher education institutions, as well as external scholarships and grants provided by sisterly and friendly countries. The available specializations encompass a variety of disciplines including health, engineering, information technology, natural sciences, architecture, business administration, education and arts and humanities.
He added that the preference modification period will end on August 1 and the entrance exams, personal interviews, and medical examinations will take place between August 8 and 15 following the announcement of the candidates on August 6. The initial selection results will be announced on August 19, and accepted students will have until August 24 to complete their registration procedures at the higher education institutions.
Al Azri urged students whose results will be released after the initial selection announcement, to promptly submit their applications and confirm their preferences during the current application modification period rather than waiting for their final results, adding that the system will not allow registration or modification of preferences after the end of this period.
He noted that the HEAC continues to develop its digital and guidance services to enhance the efficiency of the registration and admission system, providing students with a more user-friendly and transparent experience throughout the application and selection process. Students and parents have to follow the HEAC’s website and official platforms for updates, instructions, and information, and to utilize the available guidance and awareness materials. This will help them make informed decisions that enhance their chances of obtaining the appropriate specialization and building their educational and professional futures.
